livegoal vs. spreadsheets & generic tools

Most onboarding starts life in a spreadsheet and a Slack channel, and some teams graduate to a general-purpose project management tool. Both work up to a point. Here's where a purpose-built client onboarding portal is different.

How onboarding in a spreadsheet, a generic project management tool, and livegoal compare across nine criteria.

Frequently asked questions

What's wrong with running onboarding in a spreadsheet?

Nothing, until it matters. A spreadsheet is internal, so the customer can't see their own tasks and emails their CSM instead; it goes stale because updating it is a chore; and there's no record of who owns what. It works for a handful of accounts and breaks as you scale.

Can't we just use our existing project management tool?

You can model onboarding in a general-purpose PM tool, but you'll rebuild phases, client-vs-vendor ownership, a branded client view, no-login access, and onboarding-specific risk signals yourself — and guest access still looks like your PM tool, not your product. A purpose-built portal ships those out of the box.

Do our customers need to log in to livegoal?

No. Client stakeholders can open a tokenized, expiring link to check status and complete their assigned tasks with no account. Full login is available for customers who want it.

Is the portal really white-labeled on every plan?

Yes. Logo and name white-labeling is included on the entry plan and up. Custom portal and notification-email domains are an Enterprise capability.

How does per-active-account pricing work?

You're billed on active client accounts under management — not on seats — so you can invite unlimited client-side stakeholders. An account that finishes onboarding and is archived stops counting.
